{"id":103014,"date":"2018-08-29T12:27:08","date_gmt":"2018-08-29T16:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=103014"},"modified":"2018-08-29T12:28:18","modified_gmt":"2018-08-29T16:28:18","slug":"soros-picked-pawn-shocks-even-the-democrats-in-fl-governor-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/?p=103014","title":{"rendered":"Soros-picked pawn shocks even the Democrats in FL governor race"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Upset Primary Win In Florida Governor&#8217;s Race Shocks Democratic Rivals<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p>Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum, 39, stunned his opponents with an upset victory\u00a0Tuesday amid\u00a0<strong>the highest turnout for a midterm primary election in Florida history<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/gillum.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-103015\" src=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/gillum.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/gillum.jpg 640w, https:\/\/stateofthenation2012.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/gillum-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gillum &#8211; who received a major boost in the campaign&#8217;s final days from Bernie Sanders (I-VT), held an unofficial 3%\u00a0lead over his closest rival, former US Rep. Gwen Graham (D), with 94% of the votes counted. In particular, Gillum &#8220;overwhelmed&#8221; Graham in Democrat-rich\u00a0Miami-Dade and Broward counties by more than a 2-to-1 margin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>I am overwhelmed<\/strong>,\u201d Gillum told a cheering crowd of supporters at a victory party at\u00a0downtown Tallahassee&#8217;s\u00a0Hotel Duval. \u201c<strong>I want you to know that this thing is not about me. This race is about every single one of us<\/strong>. Those of us inside this room. Those outside of this room. Those who voted for me. Those who didn\u2019t vote at all. And those who didn\u2019t vote for me because they are Republicans. But I want to be their governor, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;charismatic and proudly liberal Gillum&#8221; ran to the left of his rivals, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/politics-government\/state-politics\/article217456845.html\"><em>Miami Herald<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<strong>despite being vastly outspent<\/strong>. His message of\u00a0<strong>social justice and lifting up the downtrodden<\/strong>\u00a0won over Florida&#8217;s &#8220;growing diversity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Following her loss to Gillum, Graham called to congratulate him, saying &#8220;Andrew, go out and win this damned thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow we must put all our efforts behind Andrew Gillum,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd make sure that we do everything we can to have him elected governor on Nov. 6.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gillum was described by former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders as leading a &#8220;political revolution&#8221; in Florida.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>His victory gives Florida voters a striking contrast in style and substance with his Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, who has the enthusiastic support of President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>For months, Gillum has said he yearned for the chance to take on DeSantis in November. At DeSantis\u2019 victory party in Orlando, the GOP nominee said: \u201cI think he is way, way too liberal for the state of Florida.\u201d &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/politics-government\/state-politics\/article217456845.html\">Miami Herald<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gillum struggled early in the primary race, often saying he was the only &#8220;non-millionaire&#8221; in the running &#8211; casting himself as a champion of lower and middle-class Floridians.<\/p>\n<p>His progressive agenda\u00a0includes\u00a0support for a $15 minimum wage and Medicare for all, as well as vehement opposition to the Stand Your Ground self-defense law which indemnifies people who use\u00a0force without retreating in order to protect themselves against threats or perceived threats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A win despite an ongoing\u00a0corruption probe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gillum rose to a historic victory despite a long-running FBI investigation of possible corruption at Tallahassee City Hall, for which no charges have been filed. The probe focuses on development deals involving the city&#8217;s Community Redevelopment Agency as well as a former Gillum political ally.<\/p>\n<p>The Tallahassee mayor&#8217;s victory amounts to the\u00a0<strong>largest political upset for a progressive candidate since Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez&#8217;s June\u00a0defeat of\u00a0Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY)<\/strong>, the fourth most powerful Democrat in the House.<\/p>\n<p>Gillum will now face off against Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), setting up a battle of two &#8220;diametrically opposite populist agendas,&#8221; according to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/404104-sanders-backed-gillum-wins-stunner-and-4-other-takeaways-from-arizona?userid=47328\"><em>The Hill<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Gillum and his allies argued that Democrats had for too long banked on middle-of-the-road candidates to win elections, effectively shutting the party out of the governor\u2019s mansion for two decades.<\/p>\n<p>The win by the Tallahassee mayor proved a progressive can win a primary in Florida.
